Experiments in Self Portraiture (February 2022)
Testing, testing. A new backdrop for my studio; checking how it looks with the light for a maternity client that I had that afternoon. I have wanted something very textured, fine art feeling for a while, and I finally decided to take the plunge and invest in this little number.
Those who have been following my journey for a while will know that I did a series of self portraits over lockdown, taking concepts and ideas and making them my own - using my creativity to keep me occupied and feeling vaguely productive. Since things have become busier I’ve been less inclined to do this, but I feel now’s the time to reinvent this practice and ensure that I try new things now that I’m shooting in the same space more frequently.
I allowed myself to be quite free with these; they took 10 minutes to shoot and 10 minutes to edit - those who know me will know what an advance this is on my perfectionist tendencies. I love the blur and the movement, and the fact that I was less precious about how they came out. A sign of times to come?
